MDA–NCSM Collaboration: Expanding Access to HPV Vaccination Through Dental Outreach https://web.mda.org.my/mda-ncsm-collaboration-expanding-access-to-hpv-vaccination-through-dental-outreach/ Fri, 04 Jul 2025 08:00:22 +0000 https://web.mda.org.my/?p=270401

MDA–NCSM Collaboration: Expanding Access to HPV Vaccination Through Dental Outreach

The Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) is proud to announce a collaborative initiative with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) to support the “Leaving No One Behind” (LNOB 2.0) Health Promotion Campaign, aimed at increasing awareness and access to HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination by offering HPV vaccination at a subsidised rate to B40 and underprivileged community.

In a meeting held on 4 July 2025 at Wisma MDA, Kelana Jaya, MDA and NCSM explored avenues to involve the dental community in public health advocacy, particularly in promoting HPV awareness and prevention as part of holistic oral health care. As we know, HPV infection, particularly with HPV-16, is a significant risk factor for oropharyngeal cancer, which is a type of head and neck cancer.

How Dentists Can Get Involved: Registered dental practitioners may enrol in the program through NCSM and promote the campaign to their patients through their clinics.

This collaboration also extends MDA’s participation in NCSM’s ongoing Jejak Kanser community programs, dental practitioners may contribute by volunteering to perform oral health screenings.

NCSM’s campaign will also be prominently featured in the upcoming MDA Newsletter and across our official platforms.

We look forward to the continued growth of this meaningful partnership in advancing both oral and overall health for the Malaysian community. Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to get involved!

Dear Esteemed Members of the Malaysian Dental Association,

With deep humility and gratitude, I begin my term as President of the Malaysian Dental Association. This is a responsibility I do not take lightly, knowing that I stand on the shoulders of those who have dedicated their time, effort, and passion to building this association into what it is today.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to our seniors whose contributions, sacrifices, and wisdom have guided MDA throughout the years. Their unwavering commitment continues to inspire many of us. At the same time, I sincerely hope to see more of our younger members stepping forward—to contribute, to learn, and to shape the future of our profession together.

The Malaysian Dental Association has always existed for its members. It is more than just an organisation—it is a collective voice, a source of strength, and a platform that protects the interests of our profession. Whether it is advocating for better policies, providing continuous professional development, or fostering a sense of community, the association plays an essential role in supporting every dental professional in Malaysia.

But an association is only as strong as the participation of its members. Your support, involvement, and feedback are what give MDA its strength and relevance. Every effort—whether big or small—contributes towards the growth and progress of our profession.

As your leadership team, we pledge to lead with open hearts and open minds. We may not have all the answers, but we will always listen, reflect, and do our utmost to serve in the best interest of our members and the dental community.

Thank you for your trust and support. Let us continue this journey together, as one united profession, for the betterment of our members, our patients, and our nation.

With sincere appreciation,
Dr. Chong Zhen Feng
President
Malaysian Dental Association
